The Mt. Hope Huskies crushed Paul Cuffee 64-28 on senior night and the girls team lost to Mt. Pleasant 58-44 during a hoops double header at the high school on Thursday night, Feb. 20. Both teams will make the playoffs that begin next Friday.
The Mt. Hope boys are red hot, winning 10 straight games as they sit on top of Division III North with a 13-4 record, with one game left to play.
The girls have currently hit a three game skid, but are in 8th place with a 10-7 record. The lady Huskies hope to right the ship against Woonsocket in a home game on Tuesday night.
Senior forward Jalen Kopecky (19), senior point guard Xavier Costa (18) and senior forward Jaden Siembab (14) combined to score 51 points against 1-16, Paul Cuffee. Costa sunk three three-pointers in the first half and Kopecky hit three three-pointers in the second half. Senior Nuno Amaral scored 5. Bruce McGuire, Gavin Winn, Faceon Hicks and Caeleb O’Blenis each scored 2 for the Huskies as they led 36-14 at halftime.
Freshman point guard Abby Razzino led the girls in the loss, scoring 14 points. Senior forward Zoe Mouligne scored 10 points, junior guard Izzy Savinon scored 7 points, freshman forward Lauren Pais scored 5, Junior Mia Merritt scored 4, Mia Padula and Aditi Mehta each scored 2. The lady Huskies were down 31-23 at halftime and closed to within 2 points, 35-37, early in the second half, but the team couldn’t stop Mt. Pleasant forward Kelsey Hatch who scored 19 points.
