H. Sanford (Sandy) Town, 90, Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Bristol

H. Sanford (Sandy) Town, 90, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of 41 Usher Terrace, Bristol, passed away on Wednesday August 14, 2019, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Fall River to Harry and Ina Town.

Sandy was a member of the First Congregational Church, Bristol. He graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1947 and The University of RI in 1951.

He was in the boat building industry for his entire career. After he retired, he spent many years as a volunteer at the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol.

Sandy is survived by three sons, Alan Town of Sarasota, Fla., Matthew Town of Weeki Wachee, Fla., and Jeffrey Town of North Augusta, SC; three grandchildren, and his sister, Jane Dattoli and her husband John of Swansea, Mass.  He also leaves one niece, four nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria Town, and his sister Sally Hathaway.

Services will be private. Personal condolences to Sandy’s family can be mailed to Alan Town, 1155 North Gulfstream Ave., Apt. 1207, Sarasota, Fl 34236

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
