The Mt. Hope girls’ gymnastics team posted its best team score of the season, 133.05, in defeating Barrington, 128.55, and Rogers, 99.75, in a dual home meet at Strive Gymnastics on Saturday. The win boosts the Huskies’ record to 7-0 in Division II.

Seniors Marissa Grenier, Elizabeth Wagoner and Mia Oliveira were honored before the meet.

“Marissa’s vault and floor scores have contributed to our team totals all season,” said Mt. Hope head coach Nicole Daniello. “She’s worked hard these last four years.”

Grenier achieved an 8.5 on floor, her highest score to date, at Saturday’s meet.

The Huskies boast a host of talented juniors who could keep the team in the hunt for a championship or two. Juniors Nora Prendergast, Reese Pavao, Maria Tucciarone and Brooke Ramella have been consistently crushing the competition with their steady performances in all-around, according to coach Daniello.

“I am so proud of all the girls attacking their bigger skills and really focusing on finishing all their moves,” said coach Daniello. “The whole team has improved in such a short time. I am so impressed with their ability to adapt to the masks and the extremely short time to prepare for competitions.”

Prendergast led the team with an overall score of 34.45, her highest score of the season. She scored an 8.75 on beam, 8.7 on vault, 8.7 on floor and an 8.3 on bars.

Pavao followed suit with an overall score of 33.85, with an 8.6 on floor, 8.55 on beam, 8.5 on vault and an 8.2 on bars.

Tucciarone posted an overall score of 32.25, with an 8.35 on vault, 8.25 on floor, 7.85 on bars and a 7.8 on beam.

Ramella had an overall score of 31.5, with an 8.6 on vault, 8.3 on floor, 7.9 on beam and a 6.7 on bars.

Freshman Caroline Nash also competed in all-around, scoring a 31.85, with an 8.4 on vault, 8.4 on beam, 8.05 on floor and a 7.0 on bars.

Freshman Avery Furtado scored an 8.25 on vault, 7.35 on beam and a 6.65 on bars.

Assistant coach Courtney L’Heureux, who has been working with the team while coach Daniello was quarantined, also expressed how proud she is for the girls and all of their hard work. “The season has brought some normalcy back into their lives. The team has had so many challenges thrown their way this season, and they continue to keep pushing through.”
