George V. Almeida, 94, of Bristol

George V. Almeida, 94, passed away peacefully in Providence, R.I., on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020. He was the husband of the late Isabel (Bernado) Almeida.

A lifelong resident of Bristol, George was the son of the late Mary (Borges) and the late Joseph Almeida.

George honorably served our nation as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS Missouri, of which he was very proud. George always had a fondness for the open seas. He loved to sail and spend time on the water.

He was a general handyman who enjoyed finish carpentry and tinkering around the home. George loved to spend time with his family and telling stories. He also loved to watch football, especially the New England Patriots.

George is survived by his son, George S. Almeida, his grandchildren, George S. Almeida, Jr. and his wife Sheri, and Cheri A. Almeida and her wife Laura, and their son Rowan Almeida. He also leaves behind many friends and acquaintances.

George was predeceased by his wife Isabel, his daughter, Karen A. Almeida, his parents, Mary and Joseph, and his siblings, Mary Machado and Joseph Almeida.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial inside St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol, on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, at 10 a.m. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Due to Covid restrictions, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to the Disabled Veterans Association, 1 Capitol Hill, Providence, RI 02908.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986.
