George Manuel Franco Braz, 68, of Bristol

George Manuel Franco Braz, 68, of Fales Road, Bristol, passed away on Aug. 17, 2021, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Hilda Maria (Carvalho DaSilva) Braz.  

Born in Aqua do Pau, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of Etelvina (Franco) Cordeiro and the late Francisco Braz. In addition to his wife Hilda, he is survived by his sons: Carlos Braz; Paul Braz and his wife Melissa deSousa; Michael Braz and his fiancé Stephanie Saraiva; Jason Braz and Christopher Braz. He was the grandfather of Aaron, Austin, Katie, Paul Jr., Jessica, Maddox, Aaliyah, Jason Jr., and Christopher Jr. Braz; and great-grandfather of Aaron Jr. and Sophia Braz. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard Cordeiro and his wife Cheryl; Germana Branco and her husband Manuel; Rosa Soares (the late John) and Goretti Eusebio.

Mr. Braz was a graduate of Bristol High School and retired as a superintendent for C.B. Utility Company after 24 years.

His funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood St. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
