Four Mt. Hope High School athletes to date have earned All-State accolades from their respective coaches' associations while several others were also recognized with various level of awards for their outstanding performances on the field, court and course during the 2024 fall sports season.
Three Huskies from the soccer pitch — Thea Jackson, Emma Goglia and Maddox Canario — along with one from the cross country route — Jessica Deal — were selected or earned All-State notice.
Jackson was a repeat recipient in girls' soccer, the junior tabbed for All-State first team after leading Mt. Hope in scoring with 22 goals and 10 assists. Goglia, the Huskies' outstanding center defensive back, was chosen for the second team.
Likewise, Canario was selected for All-State second team in boys' soccer as he led Mt. Hope to the top seed in the Division II playoffs with his 14 goals, which placed him in a share of 13th overall on the state goal-scoring list.
Deal, as she did a year ago, placed among the top 10 runners in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League state championship harrier meet, once again running her way to All-State honors.
Girls' soccer
Several other Huskies were chosen for All-Division I girls' soccer postseason awards. Kendra Ascoli was picked for the first team, Madison Butterworth the second team and Lilliana Redman the third team.
In addition, Jackson, Lola Silva and Haley McCormick earned All-Academic honors, given to seniors and juniors with a 3.8 grade point average or higher.
Also for Mt. Hope, Lola Silva was the team's 2024 recipient of the Alice Sullivan “Perseverance" Award.
Boys' soccer
Canario's final season for the Huskies in boys' soccer also included first team All-Conference notice and first team All-Division. Diego Gonzalez joined him on the All-Conference roll, picked for the second team.
Lucas Andreozzi was Mt. Hope's recipient of the Rhode Island Boys' Soccer Coaches' Association Distinguished Player of the Year Award for "dedication to program, display of sportsmanship and distinguished work ethic."
Canario, Gonzalez and Thomas Loiselle were pegged for All-Division II first team. Aidan Hudak, Dylan DeOliveria
and Thomas Levis were chosen for the second team. Cole Tavares and Andreozzi were picked for the second team.
Lastly, Andreozzi, Nathaniel Bass, Miguel Ferraz and DeOliveria earned RIBSCA Scholar Athlete Awards.
Girls' volleyball
The MHHS girls' volleyball squad had a terrific 2024, winning 12 matches in a row and reaching the Division II playoff semifinals .
The Huskies' top all-court performer Sarah Wilcox was tabbed for the All-D-II first team, Gianna Lunney second team, Mia Hanson third team with both Abigail Allen and Leah Marshall named Honorable Mention.
Ahna Rozea, Lunney, Marshall, Savannah Murray and Margherita Dellolio earned All-Academic honors, again given to seniors and juniors with a 3.8 grade point average or higher.
One final note, Wilcox and Hanson were selected to the D-II girls' volleyball postseason All-Tournament team.
Cross country
Deal's outstanding junior campaign also included All-Metropolitan Division, All-Class B and All-Academic honors.
Lucy O’Brien earned All-Division, All-Class and All-Academic awards. Kara Pisasale ran to All-Class and All-Division honors. Alyson Gomes earned All-Academic notice and Evelyn Towers was Mt. Hope's Coaches' Award recipient.
On the boys' side, Jackson Cicchinelli ran to an All-Metropolitan Division award.
Girls' tennis
The rebuilding MHHS girls' tennis club didn't have the kind of season it would have liked, but the Huskies were represented on the All-Division I second team by singles player Emma Coelho. Elena Oliveira was selected as Mt. Hope's Sportsmanship Award winner.
All-Academic notice was earned by Coelho, Oliveira and Emma Alice Caetano. In addition, the Huskies were chosen for D-I's Team Sportsmanship Award.
Game Day cheer
(Updated: Friday, Nov. 29, 12 p.m.) The Mt. Hope High School game day fall cheerleaders, who competed in their 2024 championship competition October 26 at Cranston Stadium, earned the following postseason awards: All-Division III, first team, Ava Larisa; second team Cristina Marino; third team: Gabby Daniello.
The following Huskies were also recognized for their performance in the classroom with All-Academic notice: Rachael Thurston, Maxine Scott, Cristina Marino, Lila Maloney, Emily Cabral, Camryn Goldade and Gabby Daniello.
Football
One other note, the 2024 RIIL football season continues with the respective division championship Super Bowls the weekend of November 22-24.
Gridiron postseason awards, including several likely for Mt. Hope High, will be announced in the coming weeks.
