Puritan Drive and Ridgewood Road among the roads to be repaved

Linden Road, Echo Drive and College Lane are getting repaved. In fact, the town council recently approved a bid that will bring a fresh coat of asphalt to nine roads in Barrington, and a portion of the driveway outside the town hall.

The Barrington Department of Public Works recently advertised a request for bids for the road resurfacing project, and seven companies responded with offers.

Pawtucket Hot Mix Asphalt offered the lowest bid, at $716,480. Other companies to bid included D’Ambra Construction Co., Cardi Corporation, and J.H. Lynch & Sons. The bids ranged from Pawtucket’s low bid to a high bid of $870,768 from Narragansett Improvement Company.

In a memo to the town manager, Barrington DPW Director Alan Corvi offered his recommendation that the town accept the bid from Pawtucket Hot Mix.

“Pawtucket Hot Mix Asphalt had the paving contracts with the Town of Barrington in 2018, 2019 & extended into 2020 and did an outstanding job,” he wrote. “When lab tested and field compaction tested, all materials and workmanship conformed to the specifications of the contract.”

Mr. Corvi also recommended that the town include an additional $233,520 for contingencies and for the repaving of additional streets, for a total amount of $950,000.

The money for this project will come from the 2018 Roadway Bond.

Streets to be repaved as part of this project:

• Linden Road

• Tallwood Drive

• Lister Drive

• Echo Drive

• Puritan Drive

• Spindrift Way

• College Lane

• Ridgewood Road

• Town Hall driveway

• Maple Avenue (from Middle Highway to Walter Street)
