Carlos Mateus Vieira, 86, of Richmond Street, Bristol, passed away on June 23, 2021, at Grace Barker Health. He was the husband of Maria Aldora (Melo) Vieira.
Born in Agua de Pau, Sâo Miguel, Acores, Portugal, he was one of 12 children born to the late Jose Luis and Almerinda (Cabral) Vieira. In addition to his wife Maria Aldora, he is survived by his children, Octavio (Mary Ellen) Vieira of Bristol and Helia Arruda-Vieira of Bristol. He was the grandfather of Adam Arruda, Daniel Vieira, Heather Vieira, April Arruda, Nicole Arruda and Emily Costa, and great-grandfather of Domenic and Hailey. He was the brother of Maria Dos Anjos Vieira as well as 10 deceased brothers and sisters.
Mr. Vieira was educated in Portugal and employed by Saint Gobain for 31 years before retiring. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Bristol and the Amigos Da Terceira of Pawtucket. His biggest joy was spending time with his family.
His funeral services were held June 28 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by April Arruda and Heather Vieira. The Prayer of the Faithful was read by Nicole Arruda and Emily Costa. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Adam Arruda, April Arruda, Daniel Vieira, Nicole Arruda, Heather Vieira and Emily Costa.
