Bristol police officers made a handful of arrests, inluding multiple for domestic violence incidents, from July 15 to 22. Following are excerpts from the police log for the week.

Bristol Police: Strangulation and drugs, plus a skunk attack

Bristol police officers made a handful of arrests, inluding multiple for domestic violence incidents, from July 15 to 22. Following are excerpts from the police log for the week.

Monday, July 15

A caller from Hope Street filed a fraud complaint at 12:03 p.m.

At 4:13 in the afternoon, a group of seven juveniles were reported using a golf cart to cause damage to town property near the beach.

A caller reported a man attempting to open doors on Wood Street at 6:10 p.m. He was gone upon police arrival and officers found nothing in the area.

At 9:25 p.m., a caller reported a fight at the Town Common on Wood Street, but the officer on duty reported it was just juveniles rough-housing.

A resident reported people shining flashlights in backyards on the corner of High and Burnside streets at 10:46 p.m. Officers checked the area but could not find anyone.

A caller complained of a loud group making noise on Brookwood Road at 11:44.

Officers investigated a noise complaint on State Street at 11:52. It was found to be a woman speaking loudly while engaging in a verbal argument over property with neighbors.

Tuesday, July 16

A resident on Sousa Street reported a neighbor and dog making noise across the street from her house at 2:18 in the morning.

A caller reported identity theft on Gibson Road at 1 p.m.

A caller reported larceny on Robin Drive at 1:18 p.m.

A caller complained of noise from an argument between two people at Quito’s on Thames Street at 4:02 in the afternoon.

A caller from the corner of Hopeworth Avenue and Viking Drive reported being harassed by a man.

A caller reported suspicious people on the corner of Monterey Road and Sowams Road at 6:18 p.m.

A caller reported an injured skunk on the bike path near Mulberry Road at 8 p.m. The animal control officer responded and took it to a shelter.

A caller reported two juveniles recklessly operating electric scooters on State and Thames streets at 9:34 p.m. Police checked the area and were unable to locate the juveniles.

An officer dispersed two individuals in a vehicle loitering at the Poppasquash Road entrance of Colt State park at 9:46 p.m.

Wednesday, July 17

Officers responded to an accident at 8:14 in the morning on the corner of Metacom Avenue and Robin Drive.

The animal control officer warned a dog owner who was letting the canine run free on a ball field near the Town Beach on Asylum Road at 10:16 in the morning.

A resident reported a raccoon in a trash can on Curtis Road at 11:05 a.m.

Officers responded to reports of a verbal argument at 2:02 p.m. on Gooding Avenue. One of the parties had left before they arrived.

A caller reported a man with a gray shirt and brown hair looking into vehicles at 4:32 p.m. on State Street. Units responded to the call but could locate the man in question.

A store employee at 1776 Liquors on Metacom Avenue requested an ID check at 5:22 p.m. The person in question left before officers arrived.

Thursday, July 18

A domestic disturbance occurred at 10:49 a.m. at the Mt. Hope boat ramp off Annawamscutt Drive. Both individuals involved were arrested. The first, Robert R. Major, 41, of 45 Sowams Drive, Bristol, was charged with domestic vandalism and domestic disorderly conduct. Mary E. Garcia, 50, of 34 Sweeny Lane, Bristol, who had left the scene before officers arrived, was later taken into custoday and charged with domestic disorderly conduct, domestic assault, and domestic vandalism. Both were taken to district court.

A resident reported damage to property at 12:52 p.m. from a tree company on Easterbrooks Avenue.

An officer dispersed several people from Lower Ferry Road at 4:28 p.m.

At 5 p.m., a caller reported that the traffic light on the corner of Hope and Chesnut streets was not functioning properly. An officer responded and found the light to have no problems.

A caller reported a suspicious man inside a blue Ford pick-up truck on Metacom Avenue at 5:34 p.m., but he left prior to officers’ arrival.

Friday, July 19

At 2:27 a.m., officers investigated suspicious activity at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Chesnut Street and found someone visiting the grave of a friend.

A resident reported a juvenile trespassing at 9:33 in the morning at St. Mary’s Church on Wood Street. The father of the juvenile was advised of the complaint by officers. 

A caller reported a dog tied in the bed of a pickup truck as it traveled over the Mt. Hope Bridge at 3:39 p.m. Officers stopped the truck on Metacom Avenue, and the owner was advised.

Baretta Cheeck Jr., 20, of 70 Washington St., Bristol, was charged with two counts of tampering with vehicles and two counts of vandalism at 3:41 p.m. (see separate story).

Christopher Maurice Raphael, 32, of 5 Wilson St., Bristol, was also charged with two counts of tampering with vehicles and two counts of vandalism at 5:10 p.m. He was taken to the Adult Correctional Institution (see separate story).

An intoxicated man was removed from a residence on River Street at 9:06 p.m.

A resident reported a black Nissan shining a spotlight on a residence on State Street at 10:27 p.m.

Saturday, July 20

A caller filed a complaint regarding a child left in a vehicle at 11:01 in the morning on Metacom Avenue; officers found no child, just a 22-year-old woman, in the vehicle.

Officers responded to the Town Beach area at 6:02 p.m., after someone was bitten by a skunk. The animal was taken to the Providence Department of Health for testing after DEM reported to the scene to possibly locate more skunks.

At 7:21 p.m., a caller reported a kayaker in distress on the shore of Roger Williams University near the Mt. Hope Bridge. The kayaker reported being knocked over by a wave and was unable to swim to shore, but made it with the assistance of another man. The kayaker said he was fine and declined medical treatment.

A resident on Sousa Street reported a gathering making noise at 8:39. Responding officers found some people moving an object from a pickup truck. Police received another call about noise from Sousa Street at 11:29 p.m.

Sunday, July 21

A caller on the Mt. Hope Bridge reported a woman at the bridge parking lot hitchhiking at 11:37 a.m.

A resident on Richmond Street reported at 12:35 p.m. that vandalism had occurred on a vehicle overnight.

At 1:12 p.m. a caller complained of a dog locked in a white car. Officers found the vehicle was running with the A.C. on and the dog not in distress.

At 3:26 p.m. officers arrested 23-year-old Andrew Medeiros of 30 Brookfarm Drive. He turned himself in on warrant under charges of possession of narcotis. He was arraigned in the station and released.

A resident reported that their neighbor’s tree had fallen on their car on High Street at 4:56 p.m.

A caller on Narrows Road at 7:30 p.m. complained about residents dumping grass clippings into the woods.

A caller reported three juveniles trespassed onto docks on Monkey Wrench Lane at 8:05 p.m.

Police made an arrest after responding to a domestic disturbance at 8:56 p.m. on Orchard Street. Neil T. Siwik, 42, of Fairhaven, Mass., was charged with domestic assault by strangulation and domestic assault. He was taken to the ACI.

Monday, July 22

A caller reported that a group of juveniles threw a scooter in the water at Independence Park near Thames Street at 12:52 a.m.

An officer dispersed a vehicle and its occupants from the corner of Ursula Drive and Narrows Road at 4:59 a.m.
