Bristol Police make one arrest, chase loud neighbors and aggressive skunks

As far as criminal activity is concerned, Bristol police officers enjoyed a relatively quiet week from July 22 to 28, but they are always kept busy with calls about noisy neighbors, wayward or injured animals or suspicious characters. Following are incidents from that week.

Monday, July 22

A neighbor complained about two vehicles near the intersection of Roma and Magnolia streets with a large amount of stuff stored in them. An officer responded to check it out.

Police, DEM and a rescue team all responded to Colt State Park at about 12:20 p.m. to check on a woman in the water near the bridge, holding onto a pier. Police were called to the scene after a man attempted to call her to shore but she did not comply.

Two people were dispersed from the Post Office downtown after they were reportedly harassing and attempting to film employees at 1:48 p.m.

The Bristol Harbor Patrol joined with Coast Guard and Portsmouth boats to search for a woman attempting to swim from the Portsmouth shore to the Hog Island Lighthouse at 5:52 p.m. The crew on a Coast Guard cutter ultimately found her and brought her back to Portsmouth.

Tuesday, July 23

An officer responded to Loring Road at 10:26 a.m. for a disorderly child.

A Bradford Street resident reported a verbal argument in the back yard of neighbor’s house at 4:31 p.m.

Wednesday, July 24

Officers were called to pavilion at the town beach because a group of skunks were reportedly interfering with the town’s summer camp program.

A caller reported fireworks in the area of Constitution Street at 10:03 p.m.

Thursday, July 25

A caller reported nail polish vandalism on their car on Roma Street at 8:48 p.m.

Skunks were once again reported in area of the town’s summer camp at 10:38 a.m.

A caller reported a suspicious older man in the area of the town beach at 11:48 a.m. An officer responded. There were no arrests.

A resident on Kickemuit Avenue complained of harassment at 4:10 p.m.

A Wilson Street resident reported larceny of a bike at 8:21 p.m.

A caller reported a suspicious vehicle near the intersection of Hope Street and Dolly Drive after it sat for several minutes with its lights on at 9:06 p.m.

A vehicle and its two occupants were dispersed from the town beach area at 10:05 p.m.

A caller complained about a neighbor on Monroe Avenue intermittently running a boat motor at 11:30 at night.

Friday, July 26

Two men were dispersed from the Post Office at 12:44 a.m.

Nicholas B. Sanchez, 21, of Bellingham, Mass., was arrested at 12:58 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct, after he was taken into custody at the corner of State and High streets. He was arraigned at the station and released.

An officer was called to the Mt. Hope Bridge at 11 a.m. after a motorist saw three bicyclist stopped on the bridge and looking over the railing. They told the officer they were stopping to check out the view. They were advised about the no-stopping law for bicyclists.

A caller on Wood Street reported being threatened.

A resident called police at 1:35 p.m. to help with a cat in a tree on Waterman Street.

Someone reported a bike stolen from the town beach at 4:51 p.m.

A caller from Walgreens on Metacom Avenue told police a man had tried to enter her car at 9:20 p.m.

A High Street caller complained of noise at 10:07 p.m. Juvenile were outside playing in the roadway.

Officers asked a small group of people to put out a fire and disperse from the Narrows Point beach area at 10:22 p.m.

A caller complained of a loud group of people on a deck on Franklin Street at 10:26 p.m. An officer advised them to keep the noise down.

A caller reported three suspicious juveniles behind Guiteras School at 11:32 p.m. Officers checked the area but did not find the kids.

Saturday, July 27

A caller reported two juvenile males on Easterbrooks Avenue at 1:21 a.m. One hopped a fence and another fled before officers arrived.

An officer dispersed four people from an area under the Mt. Hope Bridge at 9:01 a.m.

The animal control officer and a DEM officer responded to the area of State Street and DeWolf Avenue for a rabid skunk at 11:24 a.m.

People were dispersed from the Mt. Hope boat ramp area at 8:57 p.m.

At 10:13 p.m., a caller reported people making noise while having a campfire in their back yard on Sousa Street. An officer responded and advised them.

Michael Collins, 40, was charged with a District Court warrant at 10:42 p.m.

Sunday, July 28

A Sousa Street caller complained of loud people at 12:35 a.m.

A caller reported damage to a rock wall on Meadow Lane at 6:55 a.m.

A Hopeworth Avenue resident complained of an egg thrown at his house at 7:27 a.m.

An officer called rescue to the town common for a man who had been assaulted at 7:28 p.m.

A caller reported fireworks in the area of Belvedere Drive at 8:50 p.m.

A resident on Goulart Avenue complained of loud music at 9:58 p.m.
