Bristol Police: Drugs, larceny and sick animals

Bristol Police officers made several arrests from Aug. 12 to 19, including one for drugs, one for larceny and a couple others for violating no-contact orders. Following is the police log for that time period.

Monday, Aug. 12

A caller reported an injured canine on Patricia Ann Drive at 8:44 a.m. The animal had fallen into a sewer grate.

At 8:47 a.m, a caller complained about a barking dog on Sherman Avenue.

At 12:40 pm, police arrested 43-year-old Steven Lopes of Warren on violation of a no-contact order.

Damage to a skylight on Christopher Drive was reported at 1:35 pm.

A caller reported a loose canine on Woodlawn Ave. at 1:19 pm, but the animal was gone upon the officer’s arrival.

At fraudulent email account was reported by a resident on Goulart Avenue at 8:38 p.m.

A caller reported suspicious activity on Wood Street at 9:20 p.m., noting that there were 8 to 10 juveniles out on bikes. Police dispersed the juveniles upon arrival.

Tuesday, Aug. 13

At 9:35 a.m., police responded to a landlord and tenant dispute on St. Elizabeth Avenue.

A fire hydrant at the corner of Hope and Franklin streets was struck and knocked over by a vehicle at 1:48 pm, forcing police to temporarily shut the road down and redirect traffic onto Oliver Street. Both the Bristol County Water Authority and fire department were notified. Injuries were reported, but transportation to the hospital was refused.

A caller reported at 2:14 p.m. crews leaving construction equipment on private property on Sherman Avenue. The caller was not the owner of the property.

At 4:37 p.m., a caller reported several unregistered vehicles at a property on High Street. Police ultimately issued a summons for junk and abandon vehicles.

At 11:42 pm, a caller reported at a noise complaint coming from the backyard of a residence on Clifton Road. Police spoke to the homeowner and found there to be no issue.

Wednesday, Aug. 14

A caller reported two men arguing in the hallway of a building on Metacom Avenue at 12:23 a.m. Police dispersed the parties upon arrival.

At 1:34 a.m., police responded to suspicious activity at the town common on Wood Street. Police dispersed the male individual upon arrival.

Police charged Ashley Abreu, 31, of Silverlake, Mass, with larceny under $1,500.

A caller reported an injured rabbit on Williams Street at 1:27 pm.

At 2:03 pm, a caller reported larceny from a vehicle on San Juan Drive.

At 3:25 pm, officers arrested John Abercrombie, 50, of Providence after finding him to be in violation of a no-contact order, third offense, on Wood Street.

Thursday, Aug. 15

At 8:12 a.m., police took into custody 59-year-old Darrell Pona of 680 Hope St., Apt. #5 under a Superior Court bench warrant. He was later transported to the court.

Police were notified at 8:21 a.m. of a delivery truck parked in the fire lane in Gooding Plaza, which the driver refused to move despite a property manager’s request. Police requested the driver move the vehicle upon arrival.

A caller reported an attempted break-in of a vehicle on Catherine Street at 10:55 a.m.

A caller reported at 7:47 p.m. suspicious activity on the corner of High and Court Streets. Police dispersed the man.

Police were twice notified of a man walking southbound along the Mt. Hope Bridge, first at 8:30 p.m. and again at 8:57 pm. Officers escorted the man to the Bristol side of the bridge on both occasions.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Thames Street at 9:30 p.m.

Friday, Aug. 16

Two cats and one rabbit were found to be abandoned in a residence along Metacom Avenue at 8:46 a.m. The tenants had left the residency the previous week.

A caller reported at 9:42 a.m. a sickly-looking fox on the town common near Wood Street.

A caller reported at 10:01 am an injured skunk at the Town Beach on Asylum Road. The skunk was gone upon police arrival.

At 10:49 a.m., a caller reported larceny from a vehicle on Kingswood Road.

Police again responded to another call about an injured skunk at the Town Beach on Asylum Road at 10:50 a.m.

At 7:53 p.m., police arrested Bruno Souza of Fall River for possession of narcotics, driving without an active license and possession of marijuana less than or equal to 1 oz.

Police advised management at the Thames Waterside Bar and Grille after receiving a noise complaint over loud music at 7:57 p.m.

Police were notified of a man lying on the ground on the corner of Wall and Buttonwood streets at 9:25 p.m. Portsmouth rescue responded to the scene to render the man assistance.

At 9:47 p.m., a caller reported flashing lights coming from the back of a house on Burton Street. Police determined it to be a flickering porch light and were unable to contact the homeowner.

Saturday, Aug. 17

Police dispersed a large group loitering around Hope and Court streets at 1:25 a.m.

A caller reported an argument at in the area of Union and Wood streets at 1:49 am.

At 2:30 a.m., a caller reported someone going through the trunk of a vehicle that had its doors open and lights turned on. The vehicle was gone upon police arrival.

A caller reported at 10:54 a.m. a fallen tree limb on a vehicle at Howe and Burton streets.

Police responded to an open fire burning around Mulberry Road and Defiance Drive at 1:35 pm.

Police responded to a report of an unattended child walking around in a diaper at Wood and Congregational streets. Police confirmed that the child was with the mother.

At 4:01 p.m., a caller reported a man was harassing customers and staff at Mt. Hope Liquors on Hope Street. Police dispersed the man upon arrival.

A caller reported larceny of a vehicle on Fales Road at 5:50 p.m.

A caller reported a suspicious male sitting on her front steps at Burton Street at 7:22 p.m.

At 8:35 p.m., a caller notified police of a bat in his house. At 9:20 p.m., he again contacted police to let them know he had a pest control company on the scene.

Police notified the homeowner of a residence on Basswood Road and Annawamscutt Drive of a noise complaint at 8:40 p.m.

At 8:57 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident at High and Bradford Streets. Injured parties were transported to the hospital.

A caller reported two men wearing dark clothing riding bicycles on the Mt. Hope Bridge at 9:09 pm. Officers requested Portsmouth police assistance.

Sunday, Aug. 18

Police dispersed a large group loitering in front of the Lobster Pot Restaurant at 12:02 a.m.

At 2:39 am, police dispersed three juveniles on Thames Street around the Prudence Island Ferry who were discussing going out on the boat.

Police were notified of an injured seagull on Metacom Avenue at 9:30 a.m. The seagull was later transported to an animal shelter and DEM was notified.

At 10 a.m., a caller notified police of two men on bicycles looking into windows and taking pictures of houses on Herzig Street. The caller did not wish to file a report.

At 10:38 a.m., an anonymous caller reported a possibly intoxicated man riding on a blue bicycle around the area of Wood and St. Elizabeth streets.

A caller notified police at 11:41 am of a potentially rabid fox near the playground on the town common. Police were unable to locate the fox.

At 12:21 p.m., a caller notified police of a woman with her dog located in an area on the town beach that prohibits canines. The woman and dog were gone upon police arrival.

At 4:42 p.m., a caller reported a vessel carrying 8 to 10 people operating recklessly around the Kickemuit River. The vessel was gone upon police arrival.

Monday, Aug. 19

A caller reported a suspicious male around Beach and Peck Rock roads at 12:09 a.m. The man was dispersed from the area upon police arrival.

A caller reported at 12:55 a.m. a suspicious vehicle located at Narrows Point. The vehicle was dispersed upon police arrival.

Police responded to a verbal argument on Butterworth Avenue at 1:08 a.m.
