Amelia (Damaso) Medeiros, 71, passed away Sept. 19, 2020, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. 

She was the wife of the late Virginio Medeiros for  30 years.

Amelia Medeiros, 71

Amelia (Damaso) Medeiros, 71, passed away Sept. 19, 2020, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. 

She was the wife of the late Virginio Medeiros for  30 years.

Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jacinto and Ambrosina Correira.

Amelia worked as a machine operator at Martin Copeland for many years until her retirement in 2001. Amelia loved plants and gardening. She also loved to cook, especially for her grandchildren and family gatherings. She was a surrogate grandmother to many people and always had a meal ready.

Amelia is survived by her son, Eugene Medeiros and his wife Gail. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Zachary Ambrose and Connor Medeiros. She will also be remembered by her siblings, Connie Carreiro (Luis), Luis Pimental, Carl Pimental (Laura) and her nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service in her memory on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at Radiant Christian Church, 895 Main St., Warren, R.I. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 19 Bassett St., Providence, RI 02903 or to the American Kidney fund at www.kidneyfund.org.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
