Albino Tavares Jr., 93, of Bristol

Albino Tavares Jr., 93, of DeWolf Avenue passed away on Aug. 6, 2020, at home. He was the husband of the late Alice Ann (Andrade) Tavares.  

Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Albino and Emilia Tavares. He is survived by his children, John Tavares and his wife Lynn of Bristol, Julie Abenante of Bristol, and Cathy Alves and her husband Michael of Bristol; grandchildren, Marc Tavares, Jennifer Gomes, Kelly Abenante and Kristen Teixeira; 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.  He was the brother of Lisa Paon and the late Anthony Travers, Manuel Travers, Alfred Travers and Isabel Hynson.

Mr. Tavares was educated in Bristol and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed in quality control for Kaiser Aluminum and Converse before retiring. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always putting his family first. He was an avid golfer, Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing softball.

His funeral services were held Aug. 12 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church by Rev. Jared Costanza. Liturgical readings were by Ashley Mello and Katie Dunbar. Burial with Military Honors followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Marc Tavares, Paul Armillotto, Shane Teizeira, Chris MacMillian, Bobby Muggle and Kyle Coggeshall.
