The Barrington High School girls volleyball team moved one step closer to the Division II State Championship match after defeating Burrillville 3-0 in the playoff opener on Wednesday night, Oct. 30.
The Eagles rolled, 25-13, 25-20, 25-18.
Sophia Denham led the way for Barrington. The senior standout blasted 12 aces against the Broncos — that was a career-high mark for Denham and set new school record for season-high number of aces at 113.
“Yeah, she’s have a great year,” Barrington High School Coach Ron Enos wrote in a message to the Barrington Times.
Denham also tallied 12 assists and four digs. Emma McCrann, a junior outside hitter, hammered 12 aces and six kills for the Eagles, while junior Claudia Leonard pitched in with six kills.
The victory powered Barrington into the semifinals of the Division II playoffs. The Eagles, who finished the regular season in first place with a record of 15-2, will play the winner of the North Smithfield vs. Westerly match. The semifinals are set for Thursday, Nov. 7, at Portsmouth High School at 5 p.m.
