Contract negotiations between the Barrington School Committee and Barrington teachers union are continuing as students headed back to class this week.
For the first time in recent history, teachers in Barrington started the school year without a new contract. The old contract expired at the start of the school year on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
According to a statement from the Barrington School Committee, the contract negotiations are moving forward, with both groups actively engaged.
"Thus far, the parties have convened on twelve occasions over many hours since the start of April, including during July and August," stated the school committee's release.
"We have reached a tentative agreement on most issues and expect to reach agreement on the remaining matters shortly after the start of the school year in September 2019. The discussions are going well, and the parties continue to work diligently and in good faith."
When contacted late last month, the Barrington teachers' union leaders would not comment on the matter.
Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore said last week: "This will be settled. I would imagine by the end of the month (September)."
