St. Luke's School awarded STEAM certification
Bishop Tobin visits local school to celebrate the achievement
Wednesday, Oct. 23 was a very special day at St. Luke’s School.
That was the day St. Luke's School officially became a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) Certified School, one of only three Catholic elementary schools in Rhode Island to achieve the distinction.
The local private school was part of a program managed by Roger Williams University to earn the STEAM certified status. The faculty, staff and students of St. Luke’s worked diligently for more than two years in order to qualify for this distinction.
Adjunct professor and renowned author of "From STEM to STEAM" and educator Tom Pilecki was the point person for the certification process for St. Luke's School.
The celebration day began with an all-school Mass celebrated by Bishop Thomas Tobin. That was followed by the certification ceremony and celebration where speakers included Mr. Pilecki, Dan Ferris, the superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese, and Dean Gena Bianco from Roger Williams University.
“This is the culmination of a great deal of work by our school community and we could not be any prouder or more pleased with this recognition,” said St. Luke's School Interim Principal Jack Rezendes.
