EAST PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has announced it fully close Waterfront Drive Sunday-Tuesday nights, April 18-20, and intermittently close Massasoit Avenue Wednesday and Thursday nights, April 21 and 22, for steel girder demolition on the Henderson Bridge.

RIDOT asks motorists to follow signed detours. Weekday operations include continued demolition of the existing westbound bridge concrete deck, excavation prior to demolition for the existing ramp from Massasoit Avenue to the Henderson Expressway westbound, and prep work for the last temporary traffic signal on North Brow Street in East Providence.

Updated traffic detours
RIDOT announced the following updated traffic guidance associated with the Henderson Bridge project:

East Providence: Henderson Pkwy. West, at the off-ramp to Massasoit, ramp closed for construction until further notice.

East Providence: Waterfront Dr., from Warren Ave. to Dexter Rd., road closed for steel girder demolition, Sun.-Tues. nights, 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

East Providence: Massasoit Ave. North, from Wilmarth Ave. to Dexter Rd., short-duration road closures for steel girder demolition, Wed. and Thurs. nights, 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Providence/East Providence: Henderson Expwy. And Massasoit Ave., from North Broadway to South Angell St./Waterman St., Westbound traffic will be shifted to the eastbound side of the bridge establishing 2-way traffic on the southern side of the bridge for approximately two years. Henderson Pkwy West, from Massasoit Ave. will be closed permanently.

Providence/East Providence: Henderson Expwy. West, from North Broadway to Angell St., left lane closed for construction, 24 hours a day.
