Barrington police responded to a Hampden Meadows residence after the homeowner was accused of yelling at a 9-year-old girl who cut through his yard after school was dismissed.

Police said they received an email from the parent of a Hampden Meadows School student after an incident occurred last week. The parent wrote that after her daughter had cut through a resident's yard on Oak Manor Road, the resident came outside and yelled at the girl. The parent wrote that the man then approached her vehicle and asked why she did not use the normal student pickup system on Kent Street. The woman allegedly told the man it was none of his business. 

Police responded to the Oak Manor Road residence and spoke to the man, who confirmed that he had yelled at the girl. Police asked the man if he was aware that the girl was only 9 years old. The man told police he hoped the incident did not result in any lasting effects for the girl, but added that if she cut through his yard again he would again reprimand her. 

Police told the man he could post a no trespassing sign to his property, and encouraged him to call police rather than yell at any children. 

The man told police he was tired of parents parking on the side roads to pick up their children instead of following the appropriate pick-up policy.
