A routine traffic stop led to an interesting discovery for Barrington police on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
An officer was on routine patrol at about 2 a.m. when he spotted a vehicle swerving. The officer ordered the vehicle over to the side of the Wampanoag Trail and approached the driver's side window. The officer allegedly smelled the odor of marijuana.
Police said they found a little less than one ounce of marijuana inside the vehicle. Officers also spotted a large number of clothing items and other goods inside the vehicle. A follow-up investigation revealed that Boscov's store surveillance cameras allegedly captured Providence resident Taylor J. Monteiro stealing items from that store. Police said there were more than 30 items inside Mr. Monteiro's vehicle. Police believe Mr. Monteiro stole clothes and other items from a number of stores, including Boscov's, Kohl's, Walmart and Home Depot.
Police charged Mr. Monteiro, 29, with driving with a suspended license-third or subsequent offense, and also issued Mr. Monteiro a citation for possession of marijuana-less than one ounce.
