Providence woman withdrew funds off bogus check

Posted

Officials from Citizens Bank contacted Barrington police on Monday, March 30 after discovering a case of fraud.

A check written out for $8,100 that appeared to be legitimate was deposited into an account, said bank officials, and then money was withdrawn — $3,000 at the Citizens Bank on Willett Avenue, and $4,500 from the Citizens Bank at the Barrington Shopping Center.

Officials said they later discovered the check was fraudulent.

Investigators at the bank said the suspect is a female Providence resident, and they were able to match her image from surveillance cameras to police photos from prior arrests.

Barrington police said they plan to file charges against the Providence woman once she is apprehended.
