Letter: Trouble brewing at bike path intersections

People on the bike path have lawful stop signs facing them. People in cars are lawfully supposed to stop for people within the crosswalk, not people on the bike path. I feel that most drivers are intimidated by bicyclists barreling along, who we fear are not going to stop. So we slow down and stop our cars.

Too many bicyclists are used to cars slowing and stopping, so that they feel they can just keep on going, regardless of the stop sign facing them.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
