To the editor:
Thank you for writing the article regarding my building permit.
I was disappointed to see so many misrepresentations and half-truths told by the neighbors who have recently purchased.
There is no public access to the river in this location, only to muddy wetlands.
They also claim that the city’s plot shows a road that bisects my lot. However, this road does not exist. If it did exist as displayed in the city plot it would run through a neighbor's house and yard and into the water ending in a cul de sac in the middle of the river with lots for four homes underwater.
The neighbors have continued to mow, landscape, and build on my land which is CRMC and town protected. I have tried to address this with them and they then accuse me of approaching them in an angry manner.
I have followed all the rules and regulations placed on me by the town of Barrington and CRMC over the past two years while planning to build my property, as well as attending multiple hearings over this time period.
These incessant attacks are detrimental to my mental and physical wellbeing.
These neighbors, who have recently purchased, did not even own their homes when I was approved to build on my land at the zoning hearings. Yet, they are suing me to take over my land under the guise of adverse possession.
Do we really want to set precedent of suing our neighbors to take their land to better our views or landscaping? I should hope not. The city of Barrington is better than this: and the people of Barrington are better than this.
I want my building permit to build my much regulated and restricted house, on my very regulated and restricted land. I have worked hard over the past two years to be granted approval and am now due this.
Sincerely,
Jacqueline Jayne, MD, MPH, FAAFP
