To the editor:
Now more than ever, it is imperative that we support the businesses here in our community. Usually at this time of year, we all read about a well known “Shop Small” campaign for the weekend after Thanksgiving.
We, the members of Barrington’s Economic Development Commission, are asking everyone to make a proactive effort to “Shop Small and Local” this coming weekend and throughout the holiday season.
As we all focus on limiting the spread of COVID-19 in our community and across Rhode Island, it is important that we remember that we are still a community. A large part of our community are the businesses here is Barrington.
Many are owned by Barrington residents, staffed by our Barrington neighbors and contribute to our town tax base. Here are some simple and easy steps you can take.
• Shop locally for your essentials.
• Shop online locally – many local businesses have established an online presence, so look up your favorite store online and shop! Also, ordering online for store pickup at a Barrington store that has a presence outside of Barrington should be credited to the Barrington location.
• If you know what you want ahead of time, call the store to order and ask for curbside pickup.
• Buy gift cards from local stores for birthdays and other presents.
• Tip well when you support a service business.
• Be respectful of store employees and other shoppers by social distancing, wearing face coverings, and staying home if you feel sick.
Continue to support your local businesses, and continue to support each other.
We look forward to getting through this together, as a community.
