Letter: Please think about visiting the senior center

To the editor:

To the senior citizens of Barrington (men and women), I am a member of the Barrington Peck Center for Adult Enrichment (Senior Center).

Years ago I lost my husband, and like many, lost interests in doing anything social. My grandchildren kept me busy, and while I treasure that time with them, they have grown up. They are still a very important part of my life, but I was alone most of the time.

I decided to go see about the Senior Center and saw a group playing a card game, and decided to talk to them. They were playing Hand and Foot. Never heard of the game but they invited me to come and play with them. They insisted it was an easy game to learn.

A few weeks later I went and learned the game. So much fun! Several years later I still am playing and after going to play cards I started to go to Bingo. More fun to be had.

Also, I have taken painting classes as well. If you want you can have a good lunch ($3 donation). Menu is posted monthly. I do that sometimes before cards and Bingo.

The main reason for this letter is that there are so many activities for seniors to enjoy. I wish there were more people who would come and have a cup of coffee and just relax while reading the monthly calendar. You will be surprised at what you can enjoy. And the best thing of all for me is the friends I have made and how much this has made me a happier person. My life is very busy now and filled with new friends and activities. So please think about visiting the center and see what it is all about. Hand and Foot is on Tuesday, 12:45 to 3:30 p.m. Hope to see you there.
