To the editor:

Over the last three weeks, Saints Matthew and Mark Episcopal Church has led an interfaith drive to raise money for families in turmoil at the southern border. Eleven other congregations and two businesses joined in, all fueled by a humanitarian, apolitical desire to relieve human misery, especially of children, who cannot decide anything for themselves but who suffer the most. We raised more than $8,000 that will be sent to: Annunciation House, Kids in Need of Defense, Refugee & Immigrant Center for Education & Legal Services, Human Rights Watch, and HIAS.

It is our hope that other organizations and places of worship will see the truth of Martin Luther King Jr.’s words “....there can be no we and they in our lives, but only brothers and sisters all sacred and dignified,” and be motivated to conduct drives of their own.
