First place Barrington tennis team defeats Narragansett 6-1

Eagles to host Moses Brown on Wednesday; state tournament starts Friday

The Barrington High School girls tennis team improved to 12-0 after defeating Narragansett 6-1 on Oct. 3.

Ava Koczera-Kasem won her match at number one singles, 6-2, 6-3, and Sadie Spector won 6-2, 6-4 at number two singles. Anna Pani lost a three-set match at third singles, 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, while Addy Friedman won 6-2, 6-0 at number four singles.

It was a clean sweep for Barrington in doubles matches. The number one doubles team of Jasmine Malik and Jillian Frechette won 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), while the number two doubles team of Carla Chen and Ella Schweier won 6-2, 7-5, and number three doubles Mira Scheiner and Kimia Beers won 6-0, 6-1.

Barrington was scheduled to play Narragansett again on Tuesday, Oct. 8, and will host Moses Brown on Wednesday, Oct. 9. 

Barrington will have six players competing in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League state tennis tournament this weekend. Ava Koczera-Kasem and Sadie Spector will compete in the singles tournament, while the teams of Addy Friedman and Jasmine Malik, and Carla Chen and Jillian Frechette will compete in the doubles bracket. The tournament begins this Friday.
