The Barrington High School gymnastics team came up just short of winning the Region 1 State Championship on Sunday.

The Eagles scored 132.25 points, which was just behind first-place Mt. Hope High School’s 132.60. Portsmouth High School finished in third place with 129.95 points. The championship meet was held at Newport YMCA.

Barrington High School coach Kelly Holmes knew her team would face strong competition in the championship meet.

“It was a great meet! Both Barrington and Mt. Hope went into the meet with 9-1 records. Our only season loss being to their team, and their only loss against Barrington so we went into it knowing it was going to be a close one!” Coach Holmes said.

“As a team, the girls scored a team best for the season of 132.25.”

Jessica Liang led the way for Barrington. Jessica scored a 34.45 in the all-around — she scored 9.10 on floor exercises, 8.80 on the vault, 8.45 on the beam, and 8.10 on bars. The 34.45 was the highest all-around score for any gymnast competing in the Region 1 State Championship.

Barrington High School freshman Katie Leblanc was the next high-scorer for Barrington in the all-around. Katie finished with a 32.60 — she scored 8.40 on the vault, an 8.15 on the beam and floor exercises and a 7.90 on bars.

Lily DaPonte scored a 32.10 in the all-around — she scored an 8.30 on vault, 8.05 on floor exercises, 8.00 on beam and a 7.75 on bars.

Ally Jameison scored a 31.80 in the all-around — she scored an 8.45 on the vault and beam, a 7.90 on bars, and a 7.00 on floor.

Hailey Searles finished with a 31.60 in the all-around — she scored an 8.30 on vault, an 8.15 on beam, a 7.70 on floor, and a 7.45 on bars.

Sarah Simon contributed with an 8.60 on beam and 7.55 on floor, Audrey Keefe scored an 8.25 on vaults, and Hannah Melker finished with a 7.25 on bars.
