The Barrington High School baseball team punched its ticket to the Division II championship series after defeating Prout 9-0 in a semifinals series showdown on Wednesday, June 5.
The Eagles exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning and rolled to the lopsided victory at Pierce Field in East Providence.
Barrington opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a run, and added another run in the top of the second.
Barrington's offense exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning and built a commanding 9-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Barrington's Henry Johnson pitched a complete game, striking out five Prout batters.
Barrington head coach Vin Scandura said his team's approach at the plate proved key in Game 3, as the Eagles put as much pressure as possible on the Prout pitcher.
"We tried to do whatever we could to make him uncomfortable on the mound," said Coach Scandura.
Disciplined at-bats, well-placed bunts and smart base-running produced positive results for the Eagles.
Coach Scandura said his team has done a nice job keeping loose throughout the playoffs and forcing pressure onto the opposition.
"When you're loose, you play well," he said. "I don't feel any tension. I'm just trying to keep them at ease… They want to win it all."
Prout opened the Division II semifinals series with a 2-0 win in Game 1, but Barrington bounced back to capture Game 2 by the same margin.
