Downed wire leads to power outage in West Barrington

Burning power line spotted on Washington Road

Posted

It took crews about a half-hour to restore electrical service to dozens of Barrington residents following an outage on Tuesday morning, July 14.

Residents in West Barrington reported the power going out shortly before 10:30 a.m. A power line was spotted hanging off a pole near the corner of Washington Road and Brook Street; the line was burning and belching smoke into the air.

Charlie White lives in that part of town and captured some photos of the incident.

"Police and fire crews were there when I returned home a few minutes later, and the line could be seen lying in the road, burning brightly and making a loud humming noise," Mr. White wrote in an email to the Times. "The smoke was pretty thick, and smelled like burning tires."

Residents called in the outage and repair crews from National Grid arrived a short time later. Mr. White reported that the electrical service was restored about 30 minutes after the crews arrived.
