Show local homeless pets some love this Valentine’s Day.

The Barrington Public Library After School Club is spreading the love this Valentine’s Day by holding a RISPCA donation drive in town. People are encouraged to drop items in the decorated donation boxes at Barrington Public Library through Feb. 12. There are also donation boxes at the Shaw's Supermarket and Pet Valu stores in the Barrington Shopping Center.

Children in the club will present their collections to the RISPCA (Rhode Island Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals) humane educator at their Feb. 12 after school club meeting. The children also will learn about the proper care of animals and animal protection rights.

The After School Club, which is for kids in grades 1-5, meets two Wednesdays a month at 4 p.m. Please visit the Kids Page at barringtonlibrary.org for complete details.

What to donate

Following are some of the items requested as part of the RISPCA drive:

• Dogs: String cheese, hot dogs, dog biscuits, Nylabones, rope toys

• Cats: Canned cat food, wood stove pellets (used for litter), laser lights, cat dancer toys, cardboard scratchers

• Other items: Paper towels, tissues, toilet paper, latex surgical gloves, powdered laundry detergent, trash bags, bleach, window cleaner, top-loading cat carriers, heating pads, fleece blankets, water bottles and holders
