Dead dog found inside leaf bag in Barrington

Police trying to identify dog’s owner

Posted

A Barrington Department of Public Works employee made a gruesome discovery on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13.

According to Barrington Police, the DPW worker found the remains of a dead dog dropped into a leaf bag and discarded at an athletic field on Sowams Road.

Barrington Police sent the dog’s remains to the SPCA for a necropsy. Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said the SPCA took X-rays and found that there were no broken bones or evidence of projectiles. Chief Correia said that for now, police have ruled out foul play in the death of the dog.

Police also said the dog did not have tags or a microchip, making it very difficult to identify the animal’s owner.

The discovery of the dog’s remains follows a period of time this spring and summer where three dead dogs washed up on Barrington beaches. Chief Correia said the department does not believe the dog found in the leaf bag is at all related to the dogs that washed up on local beaches.

Police are asking anyone who may have more information about the recent incident to call Barrington Police at 401-437-3933.
