Hampden Meadows School students will perform play that celebrates creativity

Arts Alive! and Hampden Meadows School are “toot sweet” with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr. this weekend.

The students of Hampden Meadows School are having fun performing a play about a car that can think for itself and fly. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr celebrates creativity and the value of thinking outside the box, skills our children also need to thrive in the 21st Century. Participating in theater helps develop these same qualities: how do you improvise in a situation when something goes wrong? (And in theater, as in life, something always goes wrong.)

Says Dena Davis, Arts Alive! artistic director, “These kids have learned so much and are really excited to perform this all-time favorite to close out our 10th season of Arts Alive!”

There will be four performances: May 31 at 7 p.m., June 1 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and June 2 at 1 p.m. All performances take place at Barrington High School. Tickets may be purchased online at www.artsalivebarrington.org or at the door.

The staff includes professional actors, costumers, and educators who work tirelessly so that all youth have an enriching experience.

Arts Alive! is a charitable organization committed to providing opportunities for youth to experience high quality performing arts programs that promote positive development. For more information, visit artsalive-barrington.org.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
