The Barrington High School girls basketball team build a 23-11 halftime lead against Cranston West on Saturday, Jan. 18, and held on for a 40-38 victory.

The win improved the Eagles' record to 2-4 in Division I and 2-5 overall.

Cary Heterick knocked down two three-pointers and finished 16 points to lead all scorers, while Elizabeth McConaghy went 6-for-8 from the free throw line and finished with 10 points. Hailey Walter scored eight points and Chloe Rouleau finished with four.

The win over Cranston West followed a 57-46 loss to East Greenwich on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Heterick scored 20 points to lead Barrington scorers in the loss, while Nina Gibbons finished with 13 points and Walter had eight.

Barrington was scheduled to host Smithfield on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and will play at North Kingstown on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

Boys basketball 

The Barrington High School boys basketball team dominated Shea High School from the very start and cruised to a 70-45 victory over the Raiders on Monday, Jan. 20.

Both teams entered the Division II showdown with only one league loss, but Barrington quickly asserted itself. The Eagles built a 32-18 halftime lead and outscored the Raiders by a 38-27 margin in the second half.

Three Eagles finished the game in double-digits for scoring, led by Will Rywolt who had 20 points. Connor Sullivan scored 14 points and Brendan Conaty had 11. Ben Proulx finished the game with eight points and Ben Batting had six. In total, 10 Eagles broke into the scoring column in the victory.

The win over Shea followed a pair of important victories. Barrington knocked off Moses Brown, 51-45, on Thursday, Jan. 16, and defeated Westerly 74-72 in double overtime on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Rywolt scored 20 points against the Quakers, while Ryan Bonneau finished with 13 points and Sullivan scored eight. Conaty had six points in the victory. 

Again, Rywolt played a key role for the Eagles in the scoring column, finishing with 27 points in a double overtime thriller against Westerly. Conaty knocked down key three-pointer with time winding down in the second overtime. Batting finished with 14 points and Sullivan added 12. Westerly had entered the game previously undefeated.

Barrington is slated to travel to Prout on Wednesday, Jan. 22, for a 7 p.m. game.

Girls hockey

The East Bay Co-op Girls Ice Hockey team defeated Narragansett 5-2 in a league game on Monday, Jan. 20, at Boss Arena in Kingston. 

Maddie Cornell, Kat Barker, Alexis Malnerich, Mallory Cox and Peyton Whittet each scored for the Eagles, while Ellee Kopecky played a great game in net. Kopecky made 26 saves against Narragansett. 

The Eagles also played well against LaSalle Academy in a league game on Sunday afternoon. Despite losing 2-0 against the Rams, the Eagles tallied 21 shots on the LaSalle goal, and played strong defense throughout the game. 

Boys hockey

The Eagles fell to 1-3 in league standings after losing to LaSalle Academy 7-0 on Sunday, Jan. 19. Barrington and LaSalle skated to a 0-0 tie through the first period, but the Rams exploded for three goals in the second period and four more in the third. Stephen Amaral made 35 saves in the game.

Barrington was scheduled to play at Burrillville on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and at East Greenwich on Friday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.

Indoor track

A number of Barrington High School athletes competed in the 9th annual East Coast Championship meet.
