The end of the year celebrations planned for the Barrington High School Class of 2020 were canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic. But members of the senior class have found a silver lining to those cancelations.
The class officers and faculty advisor to the Class of 2020 recently announced that money originally collected to pay for part of the prom and for the senior class banquet was instead used to create a special scholarship. The class officers worked with the Community Scholarship Fund of Barrington, which awards worthy Barrington students thousands of dollars in scholarship money each year. The BHS Class of 2020 Scholarship will be given annually to a graduating senior who exhibits leadership and contributes to his or her community.
The BHS Class of 2020 also donated $1,000 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
