Activities planned for the Barrington Tree Lighting event will be held indoors on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 3, because of the expected rain and wind.

The forecast calls for a dry start to Saturday, but rain and heavy winds arriving by mid- to late-morning. The area is expected to see 1 to 2 inches of rain and wind gusting between 35 and 50 miles per hour.

Barrington officials decided to move the holiday event indoors. The following locations will be used for the tree lighting events:

• Cookie decorating: Peck Center for Adult Enrichment (2 to 3:30 p.m.)

• Snowman bowling: Peck Center for Adult Enrichment (2 to 4 p.m.)

• Candyland: Library gallery room

• Write a letter to Santa: Peck Center for Adult Enrichment

• Musical performances by Barrington schools: Library auditorium (4:30 p.m.)

• Santa arrives: Peck Center for Adult Enrichment (3:45 p.m.)

• Tree lighting: If the weather does not permit the lighting of the tree from Town Hall, Santa will do the countdown from the steps of the Barrington Library (5 p.m.)

• People are welcome to bring a new toy to the tree lighting event at the Peck Center; Barrington Police will be on-site to accept the unwrapped gifts.
