Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha signed a new executive order on Wednesday, April 8 that extended rules and restrictions imposed by earlier orders.

The new measures, in response to the coronavirus pandemic, are extended through May 8, "unless terminated prior to that date by a subsequent order." The order can also be extended further, if deemed necessary.

A number of rules and restrictions are listed in the order, most of which were already included in the previous executive order.

• All Barrington residents are required to stay home unless traveling to work, traveling to medical treatment or obtaining necessities, such as food, medicine, gas, etc. Barrington residents may still go outside to exercise and get fresh air; however they must practice physical distancing, of greater than six feet, with those outside their household while outside and avoid touching surfaces frequently touched by others.

• Any nonresident or seasonal resident arriving to Barrington for a non-work-related purpose must immediately self-quarantine for 14 days and follow CDC and RI Department of Health guidelines pertaining to the coronavirus pandemic.

• All returning Barrington residents and visitors that have recently visited another state or country are directed to self-quarantine for 14 days from the day they arrive in Barrington. (This directive does not apply to those who were briefly in Massachusetts to, for example, shop for groceries or prescriptions.

• Self-quarantine means you must remain in your residence except for medical care or emergencies. Self-quarantine includes having food and other necessities delivered to the residence rather than leaving the residence.

• Gathering in groups of more than five people is prohibited unless all people are members of the same household.

• All playgrounds, tennis courts and basketball courts are closed to the public. Vehicle access to Barrington Beach, Veterans' Park, Walker Farm, Police Cove and other parks and recreation facilities shall be closed.

• All non-essential service and retail businesses are closed to interior sales. Sales by phone or website are permitted solely with exterior pickup or delivery.

• Any violation of any provision of this order is punishable by a fine not exceeding $500, with every day a violation continues considered a separate violation. The Barrington Police Department has the authority to enforce the order.
