Barrington’s Maude Smith-Montross and Gianna Vigliotti won silver medals at the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Fla. earlier this month.

Smith-Montross and Vigliotti, along with Providence residents Estelle Pivorunas and Sophia Haisman, raced on the U-17 quad girls boat for Narragansett Boat Club which finished second. The local girls raced three times over four days and finished second overall against the national competition.

Smith-Montross is a sophomore and Vigliotti is a freshman at Barrington High School. Pivorunas attends Wheeler School and Haisman attends Moses Brown. The four youth rowers are coached by Daniela Roop.

In order to advance to the National Championship they won gold in the New England Regional Youth Championships earlier in May.
