Two teams win top honors in respective divisions

Barrington Pop Warner sent five cheer teams to the RISMA State Cheer Competition in late October, and two teams returned with first place trophies.

The JV-2 team won first place in its division and was crowned grand champions across all JV teams. The Barrington JV-2 cheer team also had the highest score of the day across all teams in all divisions.

The Barrington Pee Wee team also won first place in its division and was named a grand champion across all Pee Wee teams in all levels. 

Also, Barrington Pop Warner’s JV-1 cheer team finished second in its division, and the Barrington Mitey Mite team won third place in its division. 

The Barrington Pop Warner Tiny Mite team competed in the exhibition only portion of the RISMA Cheer Competition.

• BPW Pee Wees: Mara Boddie, Liliana Colacchio, Avery Genetti, Olivia Cottle, Chloe Gillam, Everly Schmigle, Isabella Bertone, Fiona Lea, Rylin Munzert, Sophia Brown. Coaches: Stacey Munzert, Jacqueline Rega-Costa.

• BPW JV-2 : Alessandra Brunskill, Julianna Macera, Maiah Thompson, Charlotte Poirier, Reese Corrow, Avery Laramee, Sophie Freedman, Lyla Andrade, Chloe Byrne, Olivia Byrne, Evangelina Hill, Isabelle Rego, Sophie Wilmarth, Kaya Drake. Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
