Barrington police responded to dozens of incident calls last week:

• On Wednesday, Feb. 24, police officers and firefighters responded to a construction site on Bay Spring Avenue after a staircase collapsed and two workers were injured. Police said the bracket that secured the staircase had given way, leading to the collapse. The workers complained of a variety of injuries to their hips, hands, shoulders and knees. EMTs transported the men to Rhode Island Hospital.

• The same day, police received a phone call from a resident who said his 12-year-old daughter was out jogging when a vehicle began following her. He said his daughter ran into a yard and hid and then called her father. Police responded to the street where the girl was jogging and located the man suspected of following the girl. The man was a contractor who had been searching for a client’s home on that street. The man told police he saw the girl running and drove slowly because he did not want to hit her. A witness to the incident and said the man was just trying to find a home on that street.

• On Thursday, Feb. 25, police received a phone call regarding a situation in the woods behind the Bayside Family YMCA. A 70-year-old woman had been walking in the woods when two dogs walking off-leash began barking at her and ran at her. The dogs jumped up on the woman, scratching her legs, police said. Police issued the dog’s owner, a Barrington resident, a summons for improper restraint of dogs.

• Also on Feb. 25, a Barrington teenager told police she had been the victim of cyber harassment. Police said the girl had reported an incident that occurred at a private school to administrators there; her information led to another student being asked to leave the school. The girl then began receiving angry text messages from someone — she believed the texts were coming from the student who had been asked to leave the school. Police are trying to contact the sender of the text messages.
