A woman driving south on New Meadow Road at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, called police another vehicle pulled out of Christine Drive, slammed into her car and pushed it off the road into some trees.

The woman called police and said the suspect vehicle, a red Ford SUV, had fled from the scene.

Police who were responding to the crash spotted the suspect vehicle, recorded its license plate number, and later traced it to a home on Christine Drive. 

When officers arrived at that residence, police allegedly saw the red SUV parked in the driveway. Police said the vehicle had sustained heavy damage. Officers also saw footprints leading from the vehicle to the home, and allegedly spotted empty alcohol nip bottles on the ground at the residence.

Police officers spoke with two people at the home, asking them repeatedly who had been driving the red SUV that night. Those people went into the house for a short time, said police, and then officers saw someone leave the home through a rear door. 

The residents then came back outside and told police that their son had been driving the vehicle that night. Police believe the suspect — a 21-year-old man — had fled out the back of the house while police were at the front of the home. Police are still investigating. Officers had the red SUV towed back to the police station to be kept for evidence. 

The woman whose vehicle had been struck complained of back pain and stomach pain, but refused transportation to the hospital.
