Barrington police enforcing governor's quarantine order

Department receiving calls about vehicles with out-of-town plates

Barrington police are asking residents for assistance in enforcing the governor's order for all visitors to Rhode Island to quarantine for 14 days.

The department sent out a town-wide phone call to residents on Sunday, and the school department shared the message in a district-wide email also.

Barrington Police Chief Dino DeCrescenzo said the police department has already received a few calls reporting possible violations. He said one resident called after noticing neighbors who normally summer in Barrington arrive to their home and then leave the house a short while later.

Chief DeCrescenzo said he can understand that people arriving to a home with empty cupboards would want to run out to the market, but that action violates the governor's executive order.

The chief said people under quarantine should use a grocery delivery service or ask a neighbor to help with shopping.

Chief DeCrescenzo said residents do not need to call the station for vehicles with out-of-state license plates if those vehicles are normally seen at that home. Instead, people should report newly arrived out-of-town visitors or seasonal residents.

The police department's phone number is 401-437-3930.
