Resident then re-enters home to extinguish flames

Barrington police received a 911 call at about 12:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5 from a Lake Avenue resident after he spotted smoke coming from a neighbor's house.

Police said the man — he also lives on Lake Avenue — tried to make contact with his neighbor but was unable to do so.

The man then entered the house, found the neighbor's dog and carried it outside to safety. The neighbor then entered the house for a secont time and used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, which had started in the kitchen.
