The Barrington High School boys lacrosse team celebrated its first shutout victory of the season on Monday night, April 21. The Eagles defeated Cumberland 10-0.
Barrington goalie Luca Rigamonti recorded the shutout in net — he made 13 saves. The Barrington defense caused eight turnovers in addition to successfully clearing on 27 of 29 attempts (93 percent).
On offense, Barrington struggled a bit to take accurate shots. The Eagles scored on 10 of 31 total shots. However, the offense managed to move the ball around very well — there were seven assists on the 10 goals scored.
Dylan Edwards and Nick Spaight led Barrington in scoring with three goals each. Patrick McNamara led the assists with two, in addition to scoring once.
The win over the Clippers followed a 17-8 loss to Moses Brown last week. The Quakers broke away to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter before Barrington was able to adjust. The Eagles tightened up the defensive effort in the second quarter but trailed 11-2 at halftime.
The third quarter was all Barrington — the Eagles outscored the Quakers 4-1 in the quarter and entered the fourth trailing 12-6. But Barrington was unable to narrow the margin any further.
Onson Tieu led Barrington in goal-scoring with three, while Ben Parylak led the overall points with two goals and two assists.
Barrington also struggled with penalties in the loss to Moses Brown. While the Eagles had only eight penalties through their first three games, they were whistled for six penalties alone against Moses Brown.
Barrington will play a “home game” at East Providence on Thursday against Fordham Prep, and then a true home game at Victory Field against Portsmouth on Saturday.
