The Barrington High School girls soccer team advanced to the Division I quarterfinals after defeating Cranston West 4-3 in a preliminary round game on Wednesday night, Oct. 30.

The Eagles and Falcons were tied 2-2 mid-way through the second half, when the Falcons scored and took a 3-2 lead. But the advantage was short-lived as Sarah Yee scored and tied the game at 3-3. Ava Kovalyan scored the game-winning goal for the Eagles.

Yee and Kovalyan finished the game with one goal each, while Sophia Richardson scored one goal and had an assist. Elizabeth Grover and Cary Heterick both had assists. Barrington also benefited from a Cranston West own-goal. 

Alaina Wood and Elizabeth McConaghy combined to make 9 saves in net for the Eagles. 

Barrington will play against Cumberland in the quarterfinals. Cumberland, the number two seed in the Division I playoffs, had a first round bye.

The game is set for Saturday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at Tucker Field in Cumberland. 

Barrington boys eliminated from playoffs

The Barrington High School boys soccer team was eliminated from the Division I playoffs after a first-round loss to Classical, 2-0, on Wednesday night.

The Purple took a 1-0 lead in the first half and added to it with another goal in the second half. Barrington's Jason Troiano made six saves in net for the Eagles. 

Barrington finished the year with a 6-9-2 record overall.
