The Barrington High School boys soccer team has opened its season with a pair of wins, defeating Rocky Hill School 4-0 in a non-league game on Friday, and then knocking off Cumberland 1-0 in a league match on Monday.

In the division showdown against the Clippers, Barrington's Sam Faulkner scored the game-winner off an assist by Corbin Vaughn.

Five different Eagles players broke into the scoring column against Rocky Hill. Nick Rockwell scored two goals for Barrington, while Eli Muller and Andrew Blazewetcz also scored single goals. Cam Chalue-Feeney and Keegan Gasbarro each had assists.

Coach Don Denham said he is excited about this year's team.

"The thing that has gelled this group the most, is that they know how good they can be," Coach Denham said. "I tell them all the time, we could be really good. There could be something here."

The coach said his players have worked hard since the beginning of the season and many have experience playing on strong club teams.

Coach Denham said the strength of his team rests in the middle of the field — goalkeeping, central defender, central midfield. Barrington will play two goalkeepers, seniors Jay Troiano and Sean Imbush. Coach Denham said he has confidence in both goalkeepers and plans to have them split time this year.

Other seniors on the team are Jackson Bennett, a center defender, and Nick Rockwell, who scored twice against Rocky Hill.

"He's been our leading scorer for the last two years," Coach Denham said.

Senior Cam Chalue-Feeney moves around the field, spending some time at mid-field and defense. Other seniors include Eli Muller, Daniel Enos and Peter Languirand.

Barrington boasts a deep and talent junior class, including Ned Shapiro, Graham Vatter, Andrew Blazewetcz, Sam Faulkner, Ryan Perugini, Luke Furnas, Harry Turner, Neil MacGillvary, and Nico Arce, who is a new student at Barrington High School who hails from Spain.

"He's very talented," said Coach Denham.

The sophomore class is highlighted by Corbin Vaughn, Keegan Gasbarro and Leo Caldarella. Coach Denham said the sophomores did not lose a game in the JV schedule last year.

Coach Denham said one freshman also made the varsity team: forward Iain DeBoth.

"He's strong, good athletic ability, good first touch," Coach Denham said. "He has a good idea of what it means to be a forward."
