An 11-year-old boy told Barrington police that he was riding his bicycle home from school Monday, Nov. 18, when a woman driving a gray or silver mini-van approached him, rolled down her window, and hollered out "Get in my car and I'll give you $1,000."

The boy was traveling north on Middle Highway near Primrose Hill School when the vehicle approached in the opposite direction and slowed down, catching his attention. The boy told police he ignored the woman's request and continued pedaling his bike north along Middle Highway.

However, the female motorist then turned the mini-van around in the small Primrose Hill School parking lot and pulled up next to the boy, said police. The boy told police the woman then yelled "Get in the car now!" Again the boy ignored her and continued riding his bike home. The vehicle then turned east onto County Road toward Route 114.

When the boy arrived at home he told his mother what had happened and she called police. Officers took the report and scoured the area for a vehicle matching the description, but could not locate it.

The next day, police detectives followed up with the boy and his mother. The boy told police that the van was older-model, possibly a Chrysler, with RI plates. He said it had rust on the rear bumper and a dent on the sliding door. He also said one of the rear tires was nearly flat. The boy described the female driver as a woman in her 40s with a fair complexion, dirty blonde shoulder-length hair and dark eyes.

Anyone who may have more information or any residents who have surveillance cameras that could have captured video footage of the vehicle are asked to call the police department's tip line at 437-3933.
