Barrington’s Science Olympiad team finishes 32nd at nationals; trio wins gold in ‘Experimental Design’

Posted

For the first time ever, three Barrington High School students earned gold medals in an individual event at the Science Olympiad Nationals.

Barrington High School senior Isabel Chen and juniors Iris Yang and Neil Bansal finished first in the “Experimental Design” category. The event tests students’ ability to design, perform and analyze experiments on the spot.

Meanwhile, the entire Barrington High School Science Olympiad team made a huge jump in the overall standings from last year’s ranking. The Eagles placed 32nd out of the 60 teams that qualified to compete at the 2025 National Science Olympiad Tournament. The competition was held at the University of Nebraska, in late May.

Representing Barrington High School at nationals were Bansal, Chen, Yang, Karthik Mitta, Andrew Dunn, Sid Gupta, Cole Kepner, Rahul Yehiya, Joshua Shanty, Henry Humphreys, Alan Weng, Will Sturla, Gianni DiGioia, Aagami Mohiraaj, Sophia Gao, and Athena Gao. Barrington High School teachers Stephen Marshall and Sabrina Cancel coached the team.
