The Barrington Little League Minors Division softball all-star team advanced to the winner’s bracket final after defeating Newport 13-3 on Monday night, July 5, in Newport.

Barrington opened a 1-0 lead when Lucy LoVerme walked, stole two bases and scored. Newport battled back with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but Barrington regained the lead with four runs in the second inning and then went up 13-3 with eight runs in the third. Ava Lucas had a key hit, driving in two runs. Barrington’s Audrey Paxton pitched well, and Erin Moran had a nice play at shortstop.

The winner’s bracket final is set for Friday, July 9.

Majors division baseball

The Majors Division baseball all-star team bounced back from a first round loss to defeat Little Compton 7-0 last week. Tommy Coutant and Miles Dolan combined to pitch the shutout with only one hit allowed. Cole Fluet had a great diving catch in center field, and at the plate, Anthony Fede, Finn LoVerme and James Palmieri led the way with doubles.

Barrington was scheduled to play in an elimination bracket game against Middletown on Tuesday.
