The Tiverton girls' basketball team thrashed Lincoln 51-33 during the Division-2 quarterfinals at home on Saturday afternoon. The 13-6 Tigers move on to host Coventry in the semifinals on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Cami Oliveira, Tessa Purcell, Sara Poland, Bea Pimentel and Tori Murray all scored as Tiverton held a slight 17-10 edge at halftime. Head coach Mike Brigham blamed the lack of offense in the first half on the storm.
"Both teams were rusty coming off the long break," he said. "But the ladies played smothering, relentless defense. Especially in the in the fourth quarter and Cami warmed up in the second half."
The junior point guard indeed heated up coming out of the break. Oliveira scored 16 of her game high 19 points in the later half. As a team, the Tigers scored 14 points in the third quarter and scored 20 more to put the game away in the fourth, while their smothering defense held Lincoln to just seven points in the fourth quarter.
Purcell coming off an injured leg, scored 10 points, Poland scored seven points, Murray netted five, Jah'niece Branch scored four, and Pimental and Brook Sowa each scored three.
If Tiverton advances, they will play for the division championship at the AMP on Thursday at 6: p.m.
