An hours-long search for a missing teenager involving a police drone, a state police dog, police from several towns and family and friends ended happily in Little Compton Sunday morning, when the missing teen was spotted walking out of a nearby house, apparently no worse for wear.
Little Compton police got a call just after 6 a.m. from the father of a boy who’d hosted a get together the previous evening. The boy told officers that the night before, he and friends, including the missing boy, went to a party at the Warrens Point Beach Club. After it broke up around 11 p.m., they hung out for a few hours between the beach club and a home on Round Pond Road.
Around 1 a.m. Sunday, the missing boy noticed that he’d lost his cell phone and began retracing his steps to find it. He ended up getting separated from the group, and nobody knew where he went. After searching with no luck, he told his parents, and a group went out at about 3 a.m. to look for him, again with no luck.
After getting the call and talking to the parents three hours later, police requested a drone operator from the Tiverton Police Department and a K-9 unit from the Rhode Island State Police.
“All units began searching the area,” Little Compton patrolman Jon R. Pomerleau wrote later.
The missing boy “was soon thereafter located, walking out of a nearby house on Round Pond Road. He had entered the home in the night and fallen asleep on a couch. (His) mother was notified of her son’s status.”
